Spotlight on Anita

When opening our bra shop we introduced many brands to our region that had never been heard of before. One of these brands is Anita.
With 125 yrs experience, Anita continues to combine "quality, function and comfort" in creating their line of undergarments and swim wear.  Anita has several areas of focus: full busted; post op; nursing, athletic; and comfort.
Like any of the brands we select for our stores we test the product ourselves to make sure it is a brand we can stand behind. Anita has proven over and over that it is up for the challenge. Let me take a minute to highlight a few of their products and their features, but don't just read about them, come into your nearest The Girls Bra Shop, try one on and see for yourself.

Frankly, Scarlett....
Scarlett (B to I cup) is more than just a pretty bra. This bra has a softly-padded underwire band as well as interlock fabric with cotton on the skin for extra comfort. The cup is additionally lined in the larger sizes to offer perfect support in larger sizes. The straps are more centered at the back for perfect support. Briefs and high waist briefs match the underwired bra.

We all know how important it is to get active but that can be a challenge if you don't have the right equipment. Wearing a proper fitting sports bra designed with breathability, dryness and support is key to good performance and an essential in your gymbag.

Here's what I like about Anita Active (B to H cup): The net panels at the back regulate the moisture level and ensure that the skin remains dry. The side support function enhances the shape of the breast. The ergonomically tailored relief straps provide firm support. The seamless inner cup of microfibre towelling provides chafe-free support.

Some days you just want to stay in your pjs. Well, that's not always possible but who says you can't still surround yourself with comfort? Anita has a wide selection of comfort bras to choose from: Twin, Alicia, Safina, Aerelle are but a few that you will find at The Girls.

Featured here is Twin wireless (A to F cup). Double-layered, molded cups in breathable microfibre create a natural breast shape and provide firm support. Try it on and feel the silky-soft microfibre for maximum comfort and double-layered cups and all-round breast support for maximum fit and comfort.

What a treat to see one of our clients enjoying her vacation while sporting an Anita swimsuit.

In her words: "I love my new Anita tankini. That's performance. Not only does it slim, but the top remains down even when swimming. I feel pretty in my new swimsuit. Thanks!"
 ~ Maureen

Like I said at the beginning, don't take our word for it. Come in and see for yourself why we like Anita so much.

Coping with Mastectomy

Anita's Alicia

As with most problems in life, distance helps with healing. Not just physical distance, but days, weeks, months and years following the event provide the catalyst for restorative healing. This is no less true with mastectomy survivors. Many women are quick to relate that the physical recovery was easier and quicker than the emotional. It is often referred to as bereavement, with all the anger and sadness this word encompasses.

Fitting mastectomy survivors with the proper bra and breast form is an important part of what we do at The Girl’s Bra Shop. In order to better understand the physical and emotional impact a mastectomy has on our clients, we did some research to pass on to our fitters that will equip them with the tools necessary to provide high calibre service. During our search we came upon a website that offers the following six ways to cope with a mastectomy. We hope they are helpful. (If you want the full details, go to (http://www.bhg.com/health-family/conditions/cancer/mourning-your-mastectomy/).

Anita's Florence

  1. Embrace friends and family
  2. Think positive – it does help
  3. Accept help from others (Some find this hard to do!)
  4. Give therapy a chance
  5. Do what you love (We're all for this one!)
  6. Bolster your spirit

Interacting with other women who can relate to your experience seems to be the key element for healing. For our local clients, support groups covering the Quispamsis, Rothesay, and Saint John area are provided at the following sites:

The Girl’s Bra Shop has a wide selection of mastectomy bras including Alicia, Florence, and Sera pictured in this post, and breast forms to help you feel confident and comfortable. The Amoena Balance Shaper form, for example, provides optimal breast balance in a variety of shapes, sizes and thickness, so that every woman can feel self-assured in figure-fitting clothes and every situation. Breast forms, however, not only play a cosmetic role, they also help prevent secondary complications like lymphedema, bad posture, and neck problems.

Healthy Breasts for a Healthy Lifestyle: Wireless

Anita Twin
What do contacts, high heels, and an underwire bra have in common? At the end of the day you need to give your body a rest from each of these items. For most of us, it takes little convincing to kick off our high heels, but if you are like me, the contacts and the underwire bra usually come off when it’s time to slip into my PJs.

Chantelle Cachemire
It is recommended that an underwire bra be worn no more than 12 hours a day, allowing for freedom of movement and removal of toxins from the lymphatic system. Subtle bouncing of the breasts when we move, walk, exercise, etc., is vital to keep the lymph system functioning as it should. It gently massages and stimulates the lymph glands to move harmful toxins out.

Elomi Caitlyn
So when you’re relaxing with a good book, watching TV, listening to your favourite music, hanging out with friends, or just unwinding from a busy day, slip into a stretchy, comfortable, wireless bra, and give your girls a break.

Freya Pollyanna
If you are solely an underwire girl, then it is time to try one of our many wireless bras that provide amazing lift and comfort. It took some encouragement to convince me, but now I look forward to slipping into my favourite wireless bra which makes me feel beautiful, shapely, and confident in any venue. It’s the healthy thing to do.

Stay tuned for more of the continuing series: Healthy Breasts for a Healthy Life.

Rainy Day Bra

When it’s raining and chilly out all I want to do is snuggle up in a fuzzy blanket and read a good book in front of the fire. I end the day with a hot choco and comfies. I push my toes into fuzzy warm slippers. Yoga pants and a sweat shirt are a must.

So is my rainy day bra: Twin Soft Cup. A wireless bra that is so soft to the touch some call it second skin. Made from microfiber; a dense, closely-woven yarn/fabric which is very light, smooth, soft, hard wearing and breathable; it’s no wonder this bra is my favorite for lounging around in.

It doesn’t give the same lift that a bra with wires does but that’s just fine. On a rainy day like today I’m looking for soft and cozy while still looking good and lifted.

Hmmm...I think my sofa and slippers are calling me.

Twin wireless comes in nude, black, and ivory. Cups B-F, 32-48. Contact the store for more details or come in and try one one.
